Bovine thymus peptide preparation
A bovine thymus peptide complex used in Russian medicine for immunodeficiency and aging-related immune decline.
Abstract
Thymalin is a peptide complex prepared from bovine thymus, used in Russian medicine for primary and secondary immunodeficiency, infectious diseases, and aging-related immune decline. The product is a heterogeneous mixture of low-molecular-weight peptides; biological activity is attributed to multiple components acting in concert. Pharmacology includes T-cell maturation support, modest cytokine modulation, and proposed immunorestorative effects in the elderly. Administered intramuscularly. Russian clinical literature reports modest effects on infection rates and immune endpoint measures in elderly populations. Reported research dose ranges in the literature are 5 to 20 mg intramuscular over short courses.
Mechanism of action
Heterogeneous peptide mixture; T-cell maturation and immunorestorative effects.
Reported research dose ranges
Reported research dose ranges in the literature are 5 to 20 mg intramuscular over short courses.
